At Pepper Cafe, it’s all about the food. I have seen a lot of places in Bangalore where the decor and ambiance is extra-ordinary, but the food just doesn’t fit the bill. Here they have left it to the food to do all the talking, when your food arrives, all else is forgotten.
Located very close to the Lemon tree Hotel in Ulsoor, the place might be a little difficult to find if you’re not familiar with the area. A small place, two-storeyed, what strikes you when you enter is the huge poster of Santorini. Well, what can I say, they sure know my holiday preferences. In terms of decor, they’ve tried to bring in a bit of old world charm, I love the huge windows and wooden staircase, but the bar area and seating could use some improvement.
A bunch of us foodies were invited for a tasting session a few weeks back. We gorged on some delicious Continental food, each dish was cooked to perfection. This should be your go to place if you’re on the lookout for cafe style food in Bangalore.
We started off with some of their signature concoctions and one of my favorites too – The Sangria. They have a host of different Sangrias on offer, which is quite unique. I loved the Mexican Sangria, their Mojitos are great too – The Green Apple Mojito seemed to be a huge hit among my fellow foodies. For starters, we gorged on some of the usual fare – Cheese Balls, Potato Skins and Chicken Croquotees, all of which were delicious. My favorite was the Cha Ca, a Vietnamese style fish cake with tartar sauce, it was absolutely delicious.
The mains were the highlight for me, the Parmesan Panko Crusted Fish was simply delicious. It might seem a tad bit bland for Indian taste buds, but it was a lovely cacophony of garlic, spinach and anchovy with a lovely touch of grated Parmesan. A highly recommended dish.
Surprisingly they have a lot of seafood on their menu and all of it is brilliant. Some of the other hits were the Spinach Stuffed Chicken Supreme and the Chicken Steak in Burgundy Sauce. The veg starters were amazing too, I absolutely loved the Pepper Cafe’s Special Sizzler (Veg), veggies tossed in a delicious sauce with a portion of flavored rice to top it off. Their pastas were quite good, didn’t quite enjoy the pizzas much.
Now to my favorite part- Dessert. We tried the Oreo Cheesecake, Banoffee Pie, Sticky Chocolate Toffee Pudding, Chocolate Brownie with Ice cream and Chocolate Mousse. My favorite was the Banoffee Pie, hands down, not the best I’ve had, but it was light and delicious. The owner makes the desserts herself, so you’re in for a treat.
Overall, a great place to relax and enjoy a great meal. It’s perfect for a small family outing and also a great place to take the kids as the have a lot of kid friendly menu options.
